Fern & Dagger is a corrective skin studio dedicated entirely to acne-prone skin, including skin that became more reactive, congested, or unstable after trying to treat it.
Most of the people I work with didn’t ignore their acne; they intervened, they used the prescriptions, the treatments, the exfoliation, the routines that were supposed to fix the problem. And somewhere along the way, their skin stopped regulating the way it used to.
That’s the shift most people aren’t warned about.
When inflammation is repeatedly triggered, keratinocyte turnover inside the follicle changes. Barrier disruption increases transepidermal water loss, creating internal dehydration that interferes with controlled shedding. Instead of releasing individually, corneocytes adhere, combine with sebum, and form microcomedones — the precursor to visible breakouts.
At that point, acne isn’t random. It’s patterned.
Corrective treatment focuses on restoring regulation; reducing chronic inflammation, rebuilding barrier integrity, and normalizing follicular shedding so the skin can function predictably again.

Over time, it became clear how often chronic breakouts were being treated with general facial protocols that were not aligned with how acne develops at a physiological level.
